About

Welcome to my nomadic world through the lens! I'm Geoff Fortune, and my life's journey is an ever-evolving exploration of cultures, people, and the art of storytelling through photography.

From my teenage years, I dreamt of living abroad, immersing myself in different ways of life, and embarking on thrilling adventures. My love for the outdoors, road trips, and camping has always fueled my wanderlust. However, it wasn't until I got my passport at the age of 28 that I took the leap, exploring the vibrant tapestry of South East Asia. Since then, I've been on an unwavering mission to experience as much of our world as possible.

My passion for photography was kindled by my fascination with surfing and the captivating images that adorned surf magazines. The photographs that resonated with me the most were those that not only captured the essence of surfing but also the culture and places where it unfolded. When I moved to San Francisco, I delved into street photography, documenting everyday life as it unfolded around me. Influenced by photographers like Bruce Davidson, Boogie, and William Eggleston, I realized the power of photography to tell stories of ordinary people in their natural environments.

What draws me to documentary photography is its authenticity. It's a medium that encapsulates real-life stories without staging or artifice. With my camera, I strive to narrate tales of events as they authentically unfold. One of the most impactful projects I've been part of was a journey to Ethiopia with artists Yok and Sheryo. We painted murals at a school for underprivileged children and taught art classes. Witnessing the creativity and positivity of these children from disadvantaged backgrounds was a humbling experience.

My photography journey has been a fusion of analog and digital. I've collected and used various cameras since the beginning, exploring the unique characteristics of each. My journey into film photography, including developing my own film and darkroom printing, provided me with a profound understanding of the art. Today, I blend the aesthetics of film with the convenience of digital to create distinctive visuals.

Looking ahead, my mission is to continue exploring the world and collaborating with fellow creatives and businesses to tell stories that matter. Whether it's raising awareness about critical social issues, preserving the rich tapestry of cultural heritage, or inspiring change, I'm committed to using my lens as a tool for positive impact. Some of my work has been exhibited at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, and I've been honored to have my photographs featured in publications like Wavepool Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Eater PDX, and more.

Join me on this visual odyssey as we journey together through the lens, capturing the beauty, diversity, and stories of our remarkable world.
